Army Stew (부대찌개) is a type of Korean stew that’s been around for a long time. Originating from the United States, Army Stew became one of Korea’s most popular dishes in the 1960s, with restaurants from Seoul to Busan serving this dish. A delicious, hearty stew, Army Stew is cooked with vegetables such as potatoes, kimchi, carrots, and beef. The stew is usually seasoned with soy sauce and gochujang – a spicy and sweet red pepper paste. It’s often served with rice on the side, but it can also be eaten by itself.
