Job Description

Job Summary: The Associate Director of Research at the Center for Education Policy Research (CEPR) at Harvard University will oversee and develop analytical work for a portfolio of research projects, contribute to strategic planning, and ensure quality of analytic products. This role focuses primarily on the States Leading States (SLS) Initiative, partnering with state education agencies to evaluate policies and disseminate effective practices. The position reports to the CEPRs States Leading States Senior Director and collaborates closely with the Director of Research.

Responsibilities


  • Oversee a portfolio of research projects, including study design, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Lead a team in developing education research using experimental and quasi-experimental methods, creating data diagnostics, and developing analytic tools.
  • Hire, supervise, and mentor research staff and fellows, providing technical training.
  • Manage project budgets, develop research ideas, and assist in grant writing.
  • Coordinate project execution, ensuring timelines and quality standards are met.
  • Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including education agencies.
  • Ensure research rigor, reproducibility, and quality control.
  • Perform complex statistical programming as needed.
  • Communicate findings effectively to diverse audiences through reports, presentations, and publications.


Qualifications
  • Masters degree or higher in economics, education, public policy, statistics, or related field.
  • At least 3 years of management experience leading research teams.
  • Over 6 years of quantitative research experience, including data management, analysis, and reporting.
  • Proficiency in statistical software such as Stata and/or R; willingness to learn additional tools.

The position is a one-year term with potential for extension, hybrid work in Cambridge, MA, with 3 days onsite and 2 remote.

Preferred Qualifications


  • PhD in a relevant social science field with quantitative focus.
  • Experience with K-12 and postsecondary data.
  • Knowledge of advanced research methods, including RCTs, value-added models, machine learning, etc.
  • Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working with education agencies on policy-relevant research.


Additional Information
  • Position ends after one year, with possibility of renewal.
  • 35 hours/week, with salary grade 058.
